Observing Log for Mike Durkin6/5/2005 roughly 10:00 PM Oyster Bay Transparency: 6/10, seeing: 9/10 Celestron Ultima 8 PEC I am writing this over a month after I did this so I am relying on my memory. Anyway the night seemed a bit hazy, and when observing Jupiter through the telescope, the seeing signifiantly better than normal. I used my Nikon Coolpix 995, the 18mm Scoptronix eyepiece and a 2x barlow. My final image is here.
I am not thrilled with this image. Even though I used a 2x barlow for
this image and the seeing was very good, some of my earlier pictures
seems a little better. On a positive note though, this is my first image
with the Great Red Spot and it is clearly visible in the image. I am not sure why the picure is not quite as good as I had hoped. I upgraded to Registax version 3 and this was the first time I used it, so it is possible I need to get more familiar with it. Other causes could be that the barlow optics aren't that good, the new version of Registax doesn't process the image as well, or that the images I took just were not that good. The most like cause is probably my inexperience with this version of Registax, or something was wrong with the images such as the focusing, or maybe there is too large of a time gap between some of the images. I will need to practice more with this to see exactly how.
