Observing Log for Mike Durkin

10/28/2007 about 9:30-10:00 PM
Forest Hills, NY
Transparency: 9/10, seeing: ??/10
about 60 degrees
10x50 binoculars

I went outside my apartment building in light polluted Forest Hills, Queens, to look for the comet. I printed out a star chart of where to find it and it took me a couple of minutes to find with my 10x50 binoculars. The comet was very obvious next to Delta Persei. It appeared circular, almost like an unresolved globular cluster, and maybe about 10-20 arc minutes across. I did not see any indication of a tail and could not see any color.
I tried to show the comet to a couple of the doormen in the building. I think one of them managed to see the comet.

As a Yankee fan it seems that astronomical phenomena such as the lunar eclipse in 2004 and this year's comet MUST be harbingers of doom.
