The annular eclipse from Bryce Canyon in Utah!
Note that I am writing this 4 years after the event. I apparently forgot to add this to the log.
I set up with a bunch of other people to observe the eclipse and also take some pictures. I had a mylar
sheet to use as a solar filter on my zoom camera lens.
Since it has been so long since the eclipse, I can't remember too many details, but here are some photos
of the eclipse.
5/19/2012 about 10:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Bryce Canyon, Utah
Transparency: 10/10, Seeing 4-5/5
Temperature: about 35-50 degrees
Equipment: various telescopes, and Hutech modified Canon Rebel XT.
First day out at Bryce Canyon in expectation of the annular solar eclipse.
After an astronomy talk, the there were some telescopes set up by a local astronomy club for
people to observe through. We were able to see M13, M81, M82, M51, M57, Saturn and Mars. One of
the best views of the night was of M51 though a 24 inch Dobsonian. The spiral arms were clearly
visible.
After that, a bus took is to a parking lot just outside the park. Since there was a mandatory
blackout in that part of Utah for the evening, I had a chance to take a couple of wide angle
images of the Milky Way, and a DSLR photometry measurement of P Cyg.
