Observing Log for Mike Durkin

5/17/2021 about 9:00PM-1:00AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 8/10, Seeing ?/5
Temperature: 50-65
Equipment: Celestron Ultima 8 with PEC and Stellarvue 70mm

I wanted to see if I could use the Synguider on the Stellarvue while imaging with the 8 inch. It took me too long though to get fully set up. For about an hour though there was quite a bit of scattered clouds during setup where imaging would not have been practical.
The Canon camera was not really aligned the way I wanted and it was about 90 degrees rotated. I also think that the Synguider was not able to focus unless I added a diagonal, which I really didn't like. Focusing on a star with the diagonal was done when the tube reading wat at about 3.8 units (inches?). I'll have to test that out again, but if this is correct, I don't think I should be using a diagonal for the guidescope.
In the end I imaged NGC 4565, the "Needle Galaxy". It is an edge on galaxy, so I should not have to worry too much about fainter outer portions like I do with face on spirals.
