Observing Log for Mike Durkin

11/19/2021 about 11:00PM-12:00AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 5-8/10, Seeing 3/5
Temperature: 35-45 degrees
Equipment: Hutech modified Canon T3i

DSLR photometry og γ Cas, κ Cas, ρ Cas, and AG Peg. A couple of days after the full moon.

Note (3/10/24): Looks like I did not take any images of AG Peg and instead the images are of the area around M52 in Cassiopeia. I don't know why there was the mixup, but I could not find any variable star in that area, so those images are probably junk.

11/13/2021 about 9:00PM-10:30PM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 8/10, Seeing 2/5
Temperature: 35-45 degrees
Equipment: 10x50 binoculars

Visual measurements of RZ Ari, AM Ari, ο Cet, W Cep, RW Cep, and ψ1 Aur.
Also took a look at M45, the Double Cluster, and the Moon.

11/12/2021 about 10:30PM-12:00AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 9/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: 45-55 degrees
Equipment: Stellarvue 70mm refractor

Visual measurements of variable stars U Cet, R Tau, and S UMi.
Also looked at M42/43 region. Able to see the "wings" of the nebula and 4 stars of the Trapezium. Once or twice I thought I might have seen some of the Running Man Nebula, but that might have been me tricking myself.
Also looked in the are of M78, and I just able to detect a bit of the nebula, especially while nudging the scope.

11/6/2021 about 8:00PM-12:000AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 9-10/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: 35-45 degrees
Equipment: 16 inch Meade Lightbridge

Jupiter: my iPhone shoed the Great Red Spot transiting, but I was not able to see it. Maybe the app is wrong of the image wasn't good enough. The moons were not as sharp as I would have liked. Europa was ver close to the disk of Jupiter.
M33: unable to see the galaxy itself, but I did pick up a hint of the HII region NGC 604.
NGC 6910: Y shaped cluster. From here I was able to estimate that I was able to see stars as dim as 13th magnitide.
Cresent Nebula: unable to make out.
M27 Dumbbell Nebula: Not too hard to pick out, but a somewhat oval or rectangular shape with no clear edge.
Sculptor galaxy: unable to see. Too low and/or too much light pollution?
NGC 288: also unable to see.
NGC 7331 and Stephan's Quintet: able to make out NGC 7331. I might have just detected part of Stephan's Quintet, but I lost the field of view and didn't want to try t track it down again.
M74: I might have picked up a little bit of the core.
M1: Just barely able to make out. The same as I remember when viewing with mt 8 inch SCT years ago.
M36 and M38
NGC 1831: listed as a cliuster bit I didn't see much of a cluster, just what looked like a couple of stars concentrated with a hint of nebula around them.

11/5/2021 about 10:00-11:000PM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 10/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: 30-40 degrees
Equipment: 10x50 binoculars

Visual measurements of variable stars AF Cyg, W Cyg, V1339 Cyg, V1070 Cyg and Mira.
Also took a quick look at Uranus. Could pick it out based on the color which was slightly blue-green.
