An AOS public outreach session at Sciencestock, Leeds Pond at Science museum of Long Island.
When I got there, the sky was almost totally overcast, although it got a little better as the
afternoon went on. The event seemed to be mainly geared toward young children.
I used a white light solar filter on my telescope and my 30mm eyepiece. There were at least a few
decent sized sunspots and their penumbras, plus what seemed to be a handful of very tiny sunspots.
I also saw some faculae near the edge.
I had tried to use my 17mm and 8mm eyepieces as well, but the sunspots looked much "softer"
than with the 30mm eyepieces.
5/30/2026 about 6:00PM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 9-10/10, Seeing ?/5
Temperature: 50-60 degrees
Equipment: 10x50 binoculars
In preparation for an AOS event tomorrow, I wanted to see if I could see Venus. I used my
iPhone app the get the location. I was able to pick up Venus in binoculars, but I could not
make it out with my naked eye.
