Observing Log for Mike Durkin

11/8/2003 about 6:30PM to 11:00PM
Caumsett State Park, about 35 degrees
Transparency: 5/10, seeing 6/10
127mm Mak
Went to Caumsett Park for the public viewing of the lunar eclipse. First time I've ever been at this site, and seems to be pretty good, it's more convenient the Robert Moses, but may not be quite as dark.
Started out looking at the moon withe my 30mm eyepiece(51x), waiting for the eclipse to start. The total total eclipse started around 8 PM. I took some film photographs of the moon with slide film can be found here
Also during the night looked at Saturn, which was very low, about 20 degrees off the horizon, and the seeing was pretty bad as well as some chromatic abberation from the atmosphere.
Ended the night looking through the telescope of another AOS club member, the 10 inch Schmidt Cassegrain from Meade. We observed M31, M32 and M110, although my eyes couldn't make out M110.
