Observing Log for Mike Durkin
7/29/2004 about 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Waterfront Park, Freeport, about 70 degrees
Transparency: 8/10, Seeing: 6/10
127mm Mak
My first AOS public observing session at Waterfront Park in Freeport.
Showed a couple of young girls the moon, which was about 80-90%
illuminated. That got a big wow out of them.
I also took a quick look at Jupiter, which was pretty low in the sky, and
it was a humid day.
Also set the scope on Alberio in Cygnus.
Looked at the Ring Nebula (M57). Could not make out much detail. Just
appeared as a green-grey smoky circle.
Also tried ro resolve the double-double, but did not seem to split
clearly.
Also tried to find one of the globular clusters around Antares, but I was
not able to find any.
