Visual observation only

In the middle of the World Series, I decided to go out front of my apartment building and take a look at the lunar eclipse. I'd say about 80% of the moon was in the umbra and the dark part of the moon was a bright red-orange. I only looked at the moon for about 5 minutes before heading back into my apartment to see history as the Red Sox won the World Series.

Went out to Custer Institute in Southold for the AOS observatory first light. The sky was cloudy but cleared up enough for us to see something for first light. They set up a camera to the eyepiece and monitor so everyone outside the observatory dome could see. Originally they said the star they were looking at was Altair, however Sue Rose later corrected this and said it was Vega.
After an hour or so, sky got cloudy, and most people had left so I decided to leave as well.
On a sad note, the day after the first light party, a couple of AOS club memners were killed in a plane crash. A very sad way to finish off the first light weekend.
