Naked eye

I just got out of the subway coming home from work, when I noticed a very young crescent moon. In addition to being thin, the brightnes of the crescent was uneven. There was one part of it that seemed significantly brighter than the rest. I tried to get a picture of it with my cell phone camera, however it was too blurry and the moon to dim to capture. When I got home, I checked with Starry Night, and the moon I saw was about 30 hours old. I wish I had been able to break out the binoculars or a scope.
