Locust Valley, NY
about 60-70 degrees
trans: 9/10, seeing: ??
Coronado Hydrogen Alpha PST
Before I had to run off to an ALCON meeting, I tried to get in a little but of solar observing.
I observers a couple of small faint prominences on top of the disk, and noticed a couple of dark featires on the disk, but nothing significant.
9/20/2008 8:00-9:30
Locust Valley, NY
about 50 degrees
trans: 6/10, seeing: 5/5
Celestron Ultima 8 with PEC
Started out trying to use the 40mm(50x) 2 inch etepiece Rich H. lent me. I have to say that so far I like it. I didn't notice the astigmatism that I normally see with the 30mm Plossl eyepices that I have and I noticed quite a few
starts when scanning the Cygnus region of the sky.
I also started to try to take some astrophotos, but the dew started getting pretty bad. I only managed to get
in a 30 second image of the area around Deneb and the North American Nebula. But that was only a test, so I
didn't get any real details of the nebula.
Even though dew was starting up, I could still make out quite a bit of Jupiter. Even though it was pretty close to the horizon the seeing was surpisingly good. I was able to make out details on the belts pretty well and was able
to see 4 moon. No GRS however.
I packed in early once the dew got too bad even and Jupter was getting even lower in the sky.
