Observing Log for Mike Durkin

Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 3/10, Seeing 3/5
Temperature: about 50 degrees
Equipment: NEW 10x50 binoculars

So it looks like my binoculars were stolen from the car this month, so I had to purchase new 10x50 binoculars. I stuck with Nikon since I liked the last pair.
Very cloudy night, but was able to make out Jupiter and some of the brighter stars through some of the clouds. Using the binoculars on Jupier I could see one of the moons, Ganymede. I also took a look at a bright star just below Jupiter, which was Spica and had a very strong blue coloring.
So far the binoculars seem to be a suitable replacement. There are some slight differences, but hopefully nothing major. One thing I did like about the old ones was that there were rubber "cups" around the eyepieces you could fold up to shield from external light sources. These don't seem to have that.
