Observing Log for Mike Durkin
5/30/2015 about 8:00PM-12:00AM midnight
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 8/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: about 50-55 degrees
Equipment: Celestron 8 inch SCT
Testing out my new Celestron Off Axis guider, which worked pretty well.
I also tried to use the Linux laptop with autoguiding. I think the best camera
to use will be the Meade, which seems to work OK, or at least better than the DMK.
However both programs I tried, KStars/Ekos and OPenPHD had issues that I need
to find a solution for.
Around midnight, the clouds came in and I shut down.
5/23/2015-5/24/2015 about 11:30PM-3:30AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 8/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: about 50-55 degrees
Equipment: 10x50 binoculars, 70mm Stellarvue and Canon Rebel T3i
Visual observations of Z UMa, ST UMa, VY UMa, T UMa, VW UMa and α Her.
Then some DSLR photometry of δ Sco, κ Oph, R Lyr and P Cyg.
It has been a while since I've done some observing so I was kind of itching to get some in.
But I still need to do some "hardware testing" of the new off axis guider and using the Imaging
Source camera with the linux laptop for guiding.
