Observing Log for Mike Durkin
6/3/2011 about 10:30PM-2:30AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 6/10, Seeing 4/5
Temperature: about 60 degrees
Equipment: Hutech modified Canon Rebel XT, zoom lens, AstroTrac
I wanted to try taking photometry measurements of an eclipsing binary. Looking up, V1010 Oph was one star that is supposed to reach it's minimum tonight and it is relativly bright enought that I shuold be able take pictures with just my zoom lens.
After setting up, I noticed that the star was pretty low in the sky and there was some significant clouds. My lens fogged up after a while, but I was able to clear it off using the dew heater.
After some initial processing I think my images were too much in focus, and I think the clouds were really causing problems.
