Observing Log for Mike Durkin
10/18-19/2019 11:30PM-1:00AM
Locust Valley, NY
Transparency: 9/10, Seeing 2-3/5
Temperature: about 40-50 degrees
Equipment: Stellarvue 70mm refractor
Measured variable stars TT Cyg and V Cyg.
Then tried to see if I could find Uranus and Neptune. I started with Neptune and used Sky Safari for the location.
I do believe that I had observed Neptune, but it was difficult to be sure since even at high magnification, it still
seemed to be point like and a color was not apparent. Then looked at Uranus. In this case, I am much more
confident that I saw it. It seemed to be not quite a point and I do believe I caught a bit of light blue, green
color.
Then I looked at the moon as it was rising. It was near last quarter phase, so no a usual phase for me to
observe. Saw some nice "ridges" or "wrinkes" in Mare Serenitatis. I also tried to take a picture with my
cellphone camera. Althuogh I was able to get the moon in my picture, the focus was not very good.
